2018 24 Hours of Le Mans, a new win for ORECA

INTRODUCTION

 

A historical performance

During the 2017 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ORECA 07s stood out thanks to the performances they delivered as well as their reliability. ORECA Group thus had great expectations for this new edition and once again results exceeded them: 7 ORECAs ranked within the Top 10, in addition to the two Toyotas which had benefited from ORECA’s support during the race.

ORECA was also involved in the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside the track action, as ORECA Events once again this year ran VIP services (PR pack 24H of Le Mans) in collaboration with team Toyota Gazoo Racing. For the seventh year in a row, participants had the opportunity to enjoy Toyota’s VIP hospitality space set up along the track, as well as many other exclusive benefits.

One race but several wins for ORECA

For this 2018 edition of the 24 Hours, the race ended on a sweeping win of Team Toyota Gazoo Racing. The Japanese manufacturer managed to put an end to their previous years’ bad luck and celebrated a well-deserved win. This victory also rewarded ORECA’s efforts put into the strategy of team Toyota. ORECA once again demonstrated great motorsport expertise.

This win was not the only thing to delight ORECA as the two Rebellion R13 designed and manufactured by ORECA Technology also delivered fantastic performances. They crossed the finish line in 3rd and 4th places overall, behind the Toyota TS050, and climbed on the two highest steps of the non-hybrid LM P1 podium.

In the LM P2 class, the ORECA 07s took control too: with 7 cars ranking in the LM P2 Top 8, the ORECA 07 demonstrated great competitiveness, thanks to ORECA Technology’s hard work.

ORECA Events was also involved: for the seventh year in a row ORECA Events worked with team Toyota Gazoo Racing and welcomed VIP guests within the team’s official hospitality space. This 600m² area was located at the raccordement. Over 300 VIPs came to enjoy the great track view that this high-end hospitality had to offer. It also included 24/7 Open Bar and cocktail food. Our motorsport experts also attended the event and shared their personal experiences and stories about the world of motorsport and most particularly the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Yet ORECA Events’s VIP programme was not to do with a VIP hospitality space only! Our important guests also had the opportunity to watch the race in detail by visiting different key points around the track of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. They were also invited for a tour of a LM P2 pit, and had the chance to take a closer look at the ORECA 07 and to chat with the staff and engineers working on the car.

Finally, ORECA Events was also in charge of design, set up and management of Toyota’s Fan Zone, within the 24 Hours of Le Mans village. This was successfully delivered as around 50,000 people visited it throughout the week and tested its different activities. They tried out the simulators, had a go at the Pit Stop challenge but also discovered the cars on display and enjoyed further fun and entertainment.

Once again this year the 24 Hours of Le Mans kept their promises and remained a memorable experience for the entire ORECA Group.
